Reese Fell Alsop

American author. Born in 1913. Graduated from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and practiced as a doctor and an assistant professor of medicine at New York University. He also wrote articles for periodicals, published a volume of poems and penned a two-part horse series for children. These books had the added advantage of being illustrated by the great Paul Brown, but they are fairly hard to find and the Paul Brown connection can make them a bit pricey.

George Series:

1) GEORGE AND HIS HORSE BILL
(DODD MEAD [USA] 1948)
ILLUSTRATED BY PAUL BROWN
Fairly rare.
SUMMARY: George loves his horse Bill, but even he would be the first to admit that the big long-eared animal would never win any prizes for his looks. So he decides to train him to race over jumps instead of for the show ring.

2) GEORGE AND HIS HORSE GO WEST
(DODD MEAD [USA] 1952)
ILLUSTRATED BY PAUL BROWN
Rare.

Collector's Info:
Both hard to find, especially outside of the USA, with the second being a bit rarer than the first. Perhaps because of the Paul Brown illustrations, they can be expensive.
